The project which is the dramatized version of some parts of the Shahnameh of Ferdowsi, the world-renowned 11th century Persian epic poet, went on the stage at Monday night in the National Palace of Culture in Bulgarian capital, Sofia.
The performance received a great welcome from Bulgarians, as all the tickets of the first night were sold a few days ago.
The play will be performed for two years (about one performance in a month) by a team of 20 in one of the best theaters in Bulgaria which has 400 seats.
The Shahnameh (the Book of Kings') is a long epic poem written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi between c. 977 and 1010 AD and is the national epic of Greater Iran.
The book consists of some 50,000 couplets, making it one of the world's longest epic poems. It tells mainly the mythical and, to some extent, the historical past of the Persian Empire from the creation of the world until the Muslim conquest in the seventh century.
The ground for performing the theater project of the Shahnameh in Bulgaria has been set by Iran’s Embassy in Sofia.
