Mashhad, June 3, IRNA – A group of clerics and prayer Imams of the Sunni community in Taibad in Khorasan Razavi Province, east of Iran called on Iranians in a statement to broadly participate in the upcoming presidential elections.

Read in the sidelines of a conference entitled “Religious democracy in Imem Khomeini’s school of thought” held on Wednesday, the statement asked all Iranians to take part in the election with unity and cohesion.

The 13th presidential election in Iran is due to be held on June 18, along with city and village councils elections. There will be also held mid-term parliamentary elections in some jurisdictions.

The late Imam Khomeini emphasized the necessity of people’s participation in the country’s decision making process through voting and the Supreme Leader of Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamanei has repeatedly echoed the same notion, the statement added.

The Sunni clerics called for paving the way of improvement and neutralizing conspiracies of the foes by voting.

Taibad is a country 225 km southeast of Mashhad with 138,000 inhabitants.
