Tehran, May 23, IRNA – Iranian Interior Ministry and UNICEF Tehran Office renewed cooperation in the field of Child-Friendly Cities Initiative in Iran.

The organization wrote on its Instagram page that "UNICEF and the Ministry of Interior renewed a partnership agreement to strengthen the national efforts on developing and implementing the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) national program covering Isfahan as the first CFCI Candidate City and 12 CFCI pilot cities including Bandar Abbas, Evaz, Gorgan, Hamedan, Kerman, Mashhad, Rasht, Semnan, Shiraz, Tabriz, Tehran, and Yazd, - on mapping, developing and conducting child-centered emergency preparedness and response protocols at the national and provincial level, and on supporting the emergency response to COVID-19.

The new joint cooperation, which will continue until December 2022, was signed by Ms. Mandeep O’Brien, UNICEF Iran Representative and Mr. Rahim Saki, Deputy Minister, Head of Center for Public Relations and International Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, on 11 May 2021."

A Child-Friendly City is a city or a local community where the voices, needs, priorities and rights of children are an integral part of public policies, programs, and decisions.

UNICEF CFCI logo and brand are awarded only after the city successfully completes the CFCI Cycle, UNICEF reported.

During the pilot phase, the city is not yet considered a “Child-Friendly City” and does not receive the logo or official recognition.

The new join cooperation, which will continue at the end of 2022, was signed by Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Iran Mandeep O'Brien and former head of Iran's Interior Ministry for information and international affairs Rahim Saki.
