Islamabad, May 3, IRNA -- Pakistan’s Minister for Human Rights says China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) can counter unilaterally imposed US sanctions, state news agency APP reported.

Dr Shireen Mazari said this while speaking at seminar on Gold Ring Economic-Bloc consisting of Russia, China, Pakistan, and Iran jointly organized by GREF and Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) in Islamabad.

She explained the CPEC should be considered as community of power and not be conceived just as transactional relations adding that it can be used to counter sanctions on GREF countries.

She said CPEC is a huge opportunity which can and should be exploited and used for the economic betterment of the people of these Golden Ring Countries and it can also help bring harmony, peace and stability in these countries.

Earlier Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost while speaking to senior Pakistani journalists had said that the CPEC project is a game changer.

“In CPEC nobody can ignore importance and capabilities of Iran as it has huge and enormous resources…we believe in cooperation among regional powers,” the envoy noted.

He added that Iran is ready to become part of the CPEC project and can play a very major role in making the project a success with its vast energy recourses.

Meanwhile Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing talking to IRNA had said that Iran because of its geographical position in the region becomes natural partner in the CPEC project.

“I think CPEC is a regional project and if Iran could be the beneficiary of the regional connectivity and cooperation I think this would add to the value of the CPEC,” he said.
