Four years ago, Saudi Arabia formed a coalition to take part in the Yemeni conflict, and today it wants to withdraw in a somewhat face-saving manner.
The civil war in Yemen has continued since 2015, and Saudi Arabia, with a coalition, under its command, launched full scale military invasion and supported one of the warring parties, which also had enjoyed US intelligence and logistical support. But despite all the intelligence services, Saudi Arabia today is looking to get out of the Yemen stalemate.
The interference of the countries that were intended to end the Yemeni civil war (the poorest country of the Middle East) in their own favor got nowhere. According to the United Nations, millions of its people are at risk of hunger and famine.
Saudi Arabia is looking for a way out of the war in Yemen, according to International Crisis Group study. The International Crisis Group has called on the United States to help the Saudi regime escape from the Yemen quagmire.
The International Crisis Group in its report emphasized that Saudi Arabia is unwilling to continue the war in Yemen, and that the United States can play a key role in Saudi withdrawal from Yemen.
The group also asked Saudi Arabia to put an end to the idea that 'it is necessary to end the Yemen war with victory.' The group believes that military solution for Yemen has been futile and now it's time to take political solution.
The group emphasizes in its report that the United States should begin by finding a way out of the conflict. The report was released after the US Congress voted to end its support for the Saudi coalition in the Yemeni conflict. President Donald Trump, who is one of Saudis allies has said he would vetoe it.
In March, the US Senate has called for halt of US support for the Saudi-led coalition in the Yemeni war. Senate voters voted for a resolution with a majority vote that will force the United States to cut back Saudi Arabia's support in Yemen. The resolution was passed by 54 votes in favor to 46 against. Seven Republican representatives were among the supporters of the resolution. Democrat Barnie Sanders said the United States should not support a catastrophic war led by a tyrant regime with an irresponsible foreign policy.”
A spokesman for the Yemeni Ministry of Health, on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the Saudi-American coalition war, reported the latest figures on deaths and injuries and direct and indirect financial and psychological damage by the Saudi-led coalition's aggression.
He pointed to the outbreak of the third wave of cholera in Yemen, saying that the third wave is expected to be heavier than before, and may reach a million and 400,000 by mid-March. 2919 people were killed by the beginning of March this year.
He said that one million and 100,000 pregnant women are malnourished and 52,800 women are prone to abortion. The Yemeni Ministry of Health emphasized that 2.9 million Yemeni children are malnourished, with 400,000 of them at risk of death.
