Tehran, Nov 20, IRNA – Sahand destroyer will be dispatched to missions at the Sea of Oman and the high seas as it is going to be unveiled soon, Deputy Coordinator of the Iranian Army Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.

Sahand destroyer is undergoing the final stages of construction, Sayyari told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday.

The destroyer has been named Sahand after Iranian Sahand warship which was targeted in 1988 during an Iraqi-imposed war on Iran, Sayyari said.

The Moj Class destroyer, designed by the Iranian Navy, is in the final stage of completion and currently some defensive systems are being installed on it, the official said.

Earlier, the Iranian Navy commander had said that Sahand destroyer will join the Iranian fleet soon, adding that the Iranian Navy currently has destroyers capable of carrying helicopters and launching missiles and torpedoes.

He also expressed hope that Dena destroyer, being constructed by Iran's Defense Ministry, will join the Iranian Navy by yearend.
