Stéphane Dujarric made the remarks Monday addressing the daily press briefing.
In a letter to the UN secretary general, the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Gholamali Khoshroo on Monday urged the international community to stand against US illegal and unilateral sanctions.
'We will take a look at the letter and respond accordingly,' Dujarric said.
Answering a question on US re-imposition of sanctions against Iran, he said, 'We have no particular comment at this point on the unilateral sanctions. What is important for… I mean, the Secretary General's own position on the JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] and the importance of the JCPOA is unchanged.'
After Washington's May 8 exit from the historic Iran Deal, the US gave 90- and 180-day wind-down periods to other countries before it starts re-imposing oil sanctions on Tehran on November 4.
Part of the US' illegitimate sanctions were imposed on Iran on August 9.
On Monday Trump reinstated the US nuclear sanctions on Iran and imposed as he claimed “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This is while other signatories of Iran Deal condemned US measure to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
