Islamabad, May 17, IRNA - Pakistan has called for making joint efforts to enhance cooperation with Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of media.

Acting Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry Shafqat Jalil made the remarks during a meeting with Fardin Pazouki, Director General of Foreign News Desk, IRNA in Islamabad. Mr. Pazouki was in Pakistan to attend a two-day International Conference of News Agencies (ICNA).

Shafqat Jalil expressed gratitude to the representatives of Iran for participating in the conference and appreciated the suggestions of IRNA for the resolution adopted at the conference.

He said that Iran and Pakistan are two brotherly countries. He added that western media publish incorrect reports about Iran so the media of Iran and Pakistan should cooperate with each other at bilateral and regional level to encounter Western conspiracies.

The Pakistani official appreciating the close cooperation between the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said that it would be very useful to undermine the Western propaganda.

He revealed that the government of Pakistan is working on a plan to open APP bureau office in Iran and later Pakistan would also depute representatives from Pakistan Television in Iran.

Fardin Pazouki on the occasion congratulated the government of Pakistan and the APP on successfully organizing the International Conference of News Agencies (ICNA).

He said that for the past 25 years IRNA Bureau Office is functional in Pakistan and three years ago IRNA has also launched its Urdu news service so that the people of Pakistan could have a direct excess to news about Iran.

Press Attaché at the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad Abbas Badrifar and IRNA Bureau Chief Seyed Bahador Hosseini Teshnizi were also present in the meeting.

Later Fardin Pazouki met with Director General of External Publicity Wing at Ministry for Information and Broadcasting Zahoor Ahmad Barlas and discussed ways to promote media cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.

Zahoor Ahmad Barlas during the meeting disclosed that Pakistan is seriously thinking on opening of APP Bureau Office in Iran. He stressed upon the need to form a strong media block by Iran and Pakistan in the region.

Fardin Pazouki noted that Western media run fabricated stories about Iran and Pakistan which are biased and incorrect but both countries through their close cooperation can defeat these conspiracies against them.
