Tunis, Tunisia, Sept 1, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Tuesday that Iran calls for regional cooperation to thwart the common threat of terrorism and extremism.

Speaking to reporters, he said there is no need for competition among governments of the region and it will be justified for peace, construction and economic development and there is no room for destruction.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for a broad based cooperation at regional and international levels to help resolve disputes among governments of the region mainly in Syria and Yemen, he said.
There is no military solution to regional problems and military intervention of aliens will be very hazardous, he said adding that fighting must stop to provide humanitarian supplies and emergency needs of the Yemeni people and resolve the dispute through political means, Zarif said.
Peace talks should follow Syrian-Syrian and Yemeni-Yemeni method to resolve the issue through national reconciliation and co-existence and avoid sectarian, tribal and ethnical affiliations, he said.
'We should not let terrorist groups attain their sinister goals and the people should have the final say irrespective to alien's intervention,' Zarif said.
'We believe that international players will admit to such principle and we hope through collective contribution of neighbors the shameful disasters will be over,' he said.
Iran has always backed the Iraqi government and people in fight against terrorism, extremism and corruption, Zarif said.
There exists huge potentials between Iran and Tunisia to broaden economic cooperation in energy, oil, gas, electricity, agriculture, tourism, transport and establishing air and sea links, Zarif said.
Iran believes that peaceful technology should be at the disposal of all nations, Zarif said adding that Iran is ready to broaden cooperation with other governments in line with the international law and regulations.
